Fishing Australia Overhead Combo – by Rob Paxevanos

In addition to the wide range of Fishing Australia Threadline outfits (bream, flathead, trout, golden perch, snapper, estuary, bay, beach, etc) Okuma have released a Fishing Australia Overhead Outfit to more tackle stores in the region that is perfect for most reef and game fishing scenarios.

The FA 601 OHM comes with a Six foot, one piece Overhead Medium Strength Rod. It consists of a beautiful blank, that bends nicely through the tip and mid section, but has a powerful butt for lifting those bigger stubborn fish.

The blank is very high quality fiberglass, and it bends smoothly with absolutely zero creaking – a joy to use on any fish. Under and Overbound guides and quality fittings throughout complete the rod. It is available in solid clear tip (available in all good tackle stores) and in the new solid glo tip version (available in Rays Outdoor stores).

The reel is an upgraded version of the Okuma Classic XT; one of the most enjoyable to use and reliable reels ever released on the Australian Market. It has all the essential features without any gimmicks and a lifetime warranty. The reel comes Pre Spooled with 460 meters of premium quality Sufix 8 kilo line mono filament line.

The line class and matching rod/reel work perfectly for heavy duty reef fishing eg snapper, mowies, kingfish and more (no need for a leader, fish the 8 kilo line straight to the rig/lure for best results). This outfit is also awesome fun on albacore, yellowfin and sharks (some will remember the beastly 8 foot whaler I caught on the prototype on Television earlier this year).

Amongst other things this outfit is also ideal for light tackle marlin fishing, and also pulling grouper and drummer away from the wash when fishing from a boat.

I have extensively tested this combo from freezing to near boiling conditions on a massive variety of species…It is an awesome combo, I just love em’. My mate reckons his FA combo cries in the rock rack if he doesn’t take it out for a run once a week.

There are instances where some stores won’t have them in stock due to demand, but a new batch is nearly here for xmas. Ordering at your local store is recommended if you need an outfit like this for the xmas holidays.’

See you on the water.
