With the water temp slowly rising I headed out after a few gummy sharks over the weekend. It was slow going until finally the tide got the fish going.
We fished in around 40m of water bottom bouncing using the new Okuma Andros overhead and Okuma Salina II threadline reels and matching Rapala T-Spec rods. The idea was to drift slowly until we found a patch of gummies.
We deployed the drogue and waited patiently until one of the T-Specs
buckled over and the Andros screamed. A few big headshakes confirmed the first shark bite and after a bit of a struggle the first shark came to the net. Not long after one of the other rods buckled over as well and we’d found a good patch of fish.
Once again the preffered bait on the day was a tuna sausage made from the offcuts of southern bluefin tuna frames bound up in bait cotton. Definitely one of the best gummy baits going around.
Cheers,
Scott Gray
