Game On With Williamson Lures – Issue 5
Greetings again fellow game fishing enthusiasts!
As promised in RapalaFishingNews.com Issue 4, the release of Williamson 2010 is now well underway as our new season products start to hit the shores of Australia.
Introducing the Williamson Live Goggle Eye / Scad – a weighted subsurface trolling lure with a newly designed lifelike swimming action incorporating a pounding paddle tail. When trolled amongst a spread of typical skirted lures the Goggle Eye drums up predators from beneath the prop wash with its heavy tail thumping action and entices the curious visitor in for the kill with its large ensnaring eyes.
The lure is 7 inches long and can be trolled at speeds of up to 7 knots. The Live Goggle Eye is super stable with consistent traction thanks to the lure’s wing design and comes pre-rigged with 130lb trace, a 9/0 VMC perma steel big game hook and Williamson’s patented “hook locking” system for a positive hook up every time.
The water is cooling in the southern zones bringing on spouts of Yellow Fin and Albacore Tuna, little Black Marlin are due to show up on the far north coast very shortly with reports of the first few already being successfully tagged. Despite thoughts of a dwindling Southern Blue Fin Tuna season down in South Australia and Victoria, captures of Tuna nearing the magic 100kg mark seem to have bounced back over the past few weeks on small Williamson jets, skirts and feathers including a +100kg model on a Williamson Maxi-Hole Jet out of Port Fairy in relatively shallow waters – who knows how long the season could last, it just seems to get better and better!
As a step forward into the future and in preparation of a bumper 2010 summer, Williamson has created a Hybrid style surface lure aimed at redefining trolling techniques.
The Live Ballyhoo Hybrid is a concept that has to be seen in action to be truly appreciated, the pusher style head surfs, tracks, breathes and smokes like a conventional skirted lure whilst the lifelike Ballyhoo body swims and dives like that of a real baitfish giving a mix of actions that blend together seductively well.
Test results have proven successful already with countless species falling victim to the tempting swim of the Live Ballyhoo Hybrid.
A balanced wing keeps the Live Ballyhoo Hybrid tracking upright and the lure comes in 3 colours pre-rigged with 130lb trace, a 9/0 VMC perma steel big game hook and Williamson’s patented “hook locking” system. The Live Ballyhoo Hybrid measures in at 7 inches and trolls up to 9 knots. Keep a spot in your lure roll for this little baby as it is sure to cause a commotion in the deep blue.
Jigging has really set in for winter around the whole of the Australian coast, Yellowtail Kingfish numbers are on the rise as is the quality of fish being caught, Samson Fish are still hanging around and showing up on the west coast and keen anglers seem to be turning to metal jigs more and more for increasing applications as the offshore threadline scene continues to boom, Hapuka, Blue-Eye Trevalla and even Tuna are now all common target species.
As the market expands so must the Williamson product range and as a result we have introduced a new colour to the famously triumphant Abyss Speed Jig; Hot Pink Glow – everyone knows glow jigs and pink jigs catch fish, so what could possibly be better than both combined?! Check it out at your nearest Williamson supplier.
“Kabura Jigging” as it is known to the Japanese is a trend that is really starting to kick in Australia. Excellent in cold water when jigging extremely slowly for bottom fish such as grouper, snapper, cod and the like, this jigging method has been an employed technique by Japanese Commercial Fishermen for decades as a proven practice used to bring fish on to the bite in slow conditions.
The all new Williamson Yabai Jig is a development suited to “Kabura Jigging”. Simply jig very slowly in a consistent “hop & flutter” method. Vertically drop the jig to the bottom, wind up slowly then allow the jig to flutter down again creating maximum action with minimal outlay.
The Yabai Jig from Williamson ranges in sizes from 40g to 200g and is available in 6 chrome patterns. Trial a few this coming winter / spring and you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
That’s all from Williamson for now, keep following for future developments and stay tuned with rapalafishingnews.com for regular updates of all things piscatorial.
When it’s all on the line, make sure Williamson is on yours!
